The Pennsylvania iMapInvasives Program is pleased to host a brand-new event this year and you're invited to participate! Titled "Take a Hike, Spot an Invasive, Map Your Findings", join others from across Pennsylvania by taking a hike during the month of July in your local park or natural area and searching for invasive plants. By signing up for this event, you'll be assigned two invasive species to search for based on your locality; one species that's commonly found in your area, and another that may not yet be in Pennsylvania or is rarely found in the state (termed an "early detection" species). Report your findings for both species by recording presence and/or absence information in iMapInvasives.
Participants will be given the entire month of July to search in their local parks or natural areas and document their findings, both presence and absence, in iMapInvasives. All participants who report at least one presence/absence record for each of their assigned species will be entered into a drawing to win a prize package of outdoor-related gear. Five lucky people will be randomly chosen as the winners of this event.
If you're interested in participating in this event, register to attend a webinar training scheduled for Thursday, June 29 at 6:30pm. Participants can expect to learn how to identify their assigned species using helpful online resources and how to document observation information in iMapInvasives. If you are unable to attend the required training session on June 29 but are still interested in participating in this event, please still register and plan to watch the webinar recording when it becomes available. For reference, the webinar recording will be emailed to all event registrants.
