2023 Envirothon

Envirothon is starting off strong. The students from Cambria county surrounding schools were at Disaster’s edge on Thursday May 4th, 2023 to begin the testing process. Testing started at 9 am and went until 12 pm with the students rotating through multiple sections. Students worked in groups of five at these stations to get the tests done. Some of these were written tests while others had props for the students to use during the tests. Once testing was over they were provided with lunch and rewards were given out.

Envirothon is a nationwide competition where students have the chance to show off their environmental knowledge. Students prepare as part of a school club or activity for weeks or even months leading up to the event. The first competition is a county one, where the winner will move onto state levels. If the students win in states, they’ll be able to move onto nationals. To get to nationals, students take tests in different subjects regarding the environment, and the team with the highest overall score advances. These subjects are forestry, soil, wildlife, aquatics, and current issues. Each year the current issue theme changes. The 2023 current theme was ‘adapting to a changing climate’.

This year, the winner of the Cambria County Envirothon was Northern Cambria. They’ll be moving onto the state level testing round to compete with other counties in Pennsylvania.
