Cambria County Envirothon 2025
The Cambria County Envirothon for 2025 was held on Thursday, May 1st at Disaster’s Edge Environmental Center in the 1889 Park, located in Sidman. 17 teams of high school students from seven Cambria County schools participated in this year’s event. The schools involved included: Bishop Carroll, Blacklick Valley, Central Cambria, Conemaugh Valley, Northern Cambria, Penn Cambria, and Portage. Teams from each school district study throughout the school year to prepare for the annual competition. At the Envirothon, the teams of high school students competed in field testing using their knowledge in five topic areas – Soils and Land Use, Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife, and Current Issues. Sponsors for the local event included: Cambria County Conservation District, Adams Croyle Recreation Authority, Robindale Energy Services, Vale Wood Farms, Allied Milk Producers, PA Game Commission, PA Fish & Boat Commission, PA Bureau of Forestry, Darlisa Pizza, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The winning team from Cambria County will go on to compete for scholarships and prizes in the PA State Envirothon competition held later in May.
First Place: Northern Cambria: Taylor Davis, Lillian Statler, Sophi Williams, Emma Neff, Elle Karlheim.
2nd Place: Penn Cambria: Cody Farabaugh, Brian Wu, Sophia Rabatin, Austin Gray, Caleb Pisczek, Chris Oravec (Advisor).
3rd Place: Blacklick Valley 2: Conner Altimus, Nate Szymusiak, Paige Kelley, Sarah Mourey, Maia Brosch.
